General Description

D'omah hotel yogyakarta is located in the village of tembi in rural java - but only twenty minutes from the centre of this lively artistic city governed by a sultan.Tembi was just a usual javanese village until indonesia's handicraft guru warwick purser chose to move there and establish the design, production and export facilities of his company out of asia. The purpose was to explore how a rural community and a commercial enterprise could work hand in hand to each group's benefit. Profiled in time magazine and numerous other international and national media, tembi is now one of indonesia's primary bases for handicraft production.Recently tembi has also become a centre of art, with youthful overseas artists taking up temporary dwelling and working together with their local contemporaries. Thetembi trendy gallery has been established and is already well known for its efforts to promote the work of youthful yogyakarta artists. Despite these new influences tembi remains a conventional javanese village with the punctual morning prayer call from the mosque, the sound of ducks and geese playing in the water and farmers harvesting the rice.
