The Republic of Indonesia is a transcontinental country as it straddles both southeastern Asia and Oceania. It is made up of some 17500 islands - the worlds largest archipelago and at 237 million population is the worlds 4th most populated country. Indonesia shares borders with Papua New Guinea (on New Guinea), East Timor (on Timor) and Malaysia (on Borneo).
Indonesia is a volcanically active area with at least 150 active volcanoes. On the equator, Indonesia has a tropical climate with two monsoonal wet and dry seasons, with particularly high rainfall in the mountain regions.
